Checked Baggage Size

All airlines leaving Australia require that your checked baggage dimensions do not exceed 158 cm (height + width + length).

For weight restrictions there is usually a 20kg limit per bag, although some airlines have a 25kg limit. You can combine your weight with someone else in your group but the weight must not exceed 32kg per bag.

Remember that you will not have access to your checked baggage onboard the flight, so carry your medication, travel documents and valuables in your carry-on baggage into the aircraft cabin. Do also label your checked baggage with full contact information, for easy identification.

These are the free allowances for baggage you check-in for your flight for each class of service on Singapore Airlines. The checked baggage allowance is printed on your tickets. Passengers with checked baggage exceeding the allowance stated below will be charged for excess baggage.

KrisFlyer Elite Gold members are entitled to 1 extra piece of checkin baggage in any class of travel. PPS Club members are entitled 100% more free baggage allowance in any class of travel.  In other words, they are entitled to 4 pieces of checkin bags under the piece concept.
Business Two pieces, the sum of the three dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece must not exceed 158 cm (62 in.) The weight of each piece is limited to 23 kg.

Infants are entitled to one piece.  In addition, a fully collapsible stroller or pushchair, carry-cot and infant items may be checked in without charge.

Economy Two pieces, the sum of the three dimensions (length + width + height) of  both pieces added together does not exceed 273 cm (107 in) and the outside linear dimensions of each bag must not exceed 158 cm (62 in.) The weight of each piece is limited to 23 kg.

Infants are entitled to one piece.  In addition, a fully collapsible stroller or pushchair, carry-cot and infant items may be checked in without charge.
KrisFlyer Elite Gold members are entitled to 1 extra piece of checkin baggage in any class of travel. PPS Club members are entitled 100% more free baggage allowance in any class of travel.  In other words, they are entitled to 4 pieces of checkin bags under the piece concept.
       
Baggage Weight Limitations
In accordance with the local occupational safety rules, passengers travelling to and from Australia, Brunei, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom, should note that your checked baggage cannot exceed 32 kg per piece. This baggage weight limitation of 32kg is an issue relating to Occupational Health Safety and is not your baggage allowance. Any excess baggage above your allowance is chargeable.

Passengers are required to re-pack their baggage if the baggage weight exceeds the above-stipulated limitation per piece. Heavy machinery or spare parts that exceeds the indicated weight above would not be uplifted as baggage to and from these countries.

Valuable and Fragile Items
As part of Singapore Airlines' General Conditions of Carriage, please be advised that Singapore Airlines will not be liable for valuable or fragile items, which are checked-in as baggage.

You are advised against packing such items in your checked baggage.  The list of these items may include the following:

  • Money
  • Jewellery / Precious Metals
  • Silverware
  • Business / Travel or Identification Documents
  • Medicines or drugs
  • Samples
  • Negotiable Papers
  • Securities
  • Other valuables

Emirates

The amount of baggage you may check in and take with you on board your Emirates flight varies depending on your route and travel class. There are also safety and security rules regarding the transport of liquids, dangerous goods and certain other items.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of checked baggage you are allowed to fly with depends on your class of travel and route*. You may check in extra baggage above the allowed weight for a cost per kilogram or piece, depending on your route. Please allow time to make this purchase at the airport.

Baggage allowance by route

For travel to and from all destinations on the Emirates route network except those detailed in the table below, the free baggage allowance is:

  • First Class: Total weight of up to 40 kg.
  • Business Class: Total weight of up to 30 kg.
  • Economy Class: Total weight of up to 20 kg.

IMPORTANT: Dubai Civil Aviation prohibits the acceptance of bags that weigh more than 32 kg per single piece, into, out of, or via Dubai International Airport.

Additional allowance for Skywards Silver and Gold members

As a Skywards Gold or Silver member, you are entitled to additional free baggage allowances on Emirates flights whenever your normal baggage allowance is reflected in kilograms (kgs) on your ticket. Passengers travelling with infants

Passengers in any class of service travelling to or from the USA, Canada or Brazil, who are travelling with infants, are entitled to an additional baggage allowance of one (1) piece of checked baggage, weighing 23 kg or less. For all other destinations, passengers with infants may check in an additonal 10 kg of baggage.

Upper Class Baggage Allowance By Weight

Premium Economy & Economy Baggage Allowances by Weight

A total maximum luggage weight of 23kg per passenger.

Baggage Allowance for Infants

Infant baggage up to 10kg and no bigger than 23cm by 36cm by 56cm

Infants not entitled to a seat are entitled to one piece of checked baggage weighing no more than 10 kg and with dimensions of 9 x 14 x 22 ins. They are also entitled to one piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 6kg. This is over and above the buggy or bassinet or car seat, which are carried free of charge.

Sporting Equipment

Passengers can take one piece of sporting equipment free of charge, in addition to their free baggage allowance. The sporting equipment can weigh no more than 32kg.

Other sporting equipment such as skis (with one pair of poles and one pair of boots), rucksacks, sleeping bags, and bicycles will be considered as one piece of luggage. Excess charges may apply.

Upper Class Baggage Allowances by Piece

Baggage Allowance for Infants

Baggage Allowance for Partner/Codeshare Flights

Please note, Virgin Atlantic baggage allowances are not applicable on partner airline/codeshare flights. Therefore, if you are booked on one of these flights, please check the baggage allowance with the operating airline.

Sporting Equipment

Golfers can check in one golf bag (which includes a maximum of 14 clubs, a dozen balls and a pair of shoes) as a single item of Checked In baggage.

Other sporting equipment such as skis (with one pair of poles and one pair of boots), rucksacks, sleeping bags, and bicycles will be considered as one piece of luggage. Excess charges will apply.

BAA Baggage Restrictions to and from the UK

All passengers travelling to and from the UK are not permitted to check in any bag that weighs in excess of 32kgs (70lbs). The maximum weight limit of 32kgs relates to single items of luggage and should not be seen as your baggage allowance. This new safety measure, which applies to all airlines and all destinations to/from the UK , is being introduced to reduce strains and injuries amongst baggage handling staff.

Passengers who exceed this maximum weight limit will be asked to repack their luggage into smaller units before they can check in. Excess baggage charges will be applied where applicable.
